The main component of Radiesse is calcium hydroxyapatite - a compound that occurs naturally in our bones. When injected, it strongly stimulates our skin cells to produce more collagen which in turn increases the skin's thickness and improves its texture. It also stimulates a lot of elastin synthesis which translates into skin that is more supple and elastic. Radiesse is versatile in that we can use it straight up in its original form as a filler to improve face contours and smooth out folds, or we can dilute it to create a fantastic biostimulatory solution which tightens the skin without changes in facial volume.

If we can use it as a filler, how does it differ from hyaluronic acid fillers? Calcium hydroxyappatite does not absorb water, making it an excellent hyaluronic acid alternative for patients who tend to swell and retain water. It also lasts considerably longer - because the body naturally produces hyaluronic acid, it also naturally breaks it down in a cyclical process. It takes much longer for the body to break down Radiesse so we expect results to last at least 2 years.
