Is everyone eligible for treatment?

Botox® is the most popular brand of botulinum toxin. Other brands include Bocouture® and Azzalure®. Botulinum toxin is a naturally derived protein and when applied to muscles, the toxin interferes with neurotransmitters at nerve endings resulting in a temporary reduction of muscle contractability. The less a muscle contracts the less the skin overlying it wrinkles, hence aiding to reduce and prevent signs of aging.

What is Botox®

The following patient groups cannot undergo treatment with botulinum toxin:

  • Women during pregnancy or breastfeeding

  • Anyone with a neuromuscular disease such as Myasthenia Gravis and Lambert-Eaton syndrome

  • Anyone taking muscle relaxants

  • Anyone with an allergy to any components of the injected product

  • Anyone under 18 years of age

  • Anyone with signs of infection
